Walk With a Doc Banner.

The Walk with a Doc program began in 2005 by cardiologist Dr. David Sabgir. He was constantly speaking with his patients about the power of physical movement to prevent and treat heart disease. He eventually came to the conclusion that helping patients translate knowledge into action would require, well, action. He began walking with patients in his community and there are now over 500 chapters worldwide. Just as regular physical movement improves heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes it also helps alleviate anxiety, stress, and depression. We relate to Dr. Sabgir’s experience that talking with patients about physical activity doesn’t always result in action. With this rationale in mind, we invite you to take a free mental health walk with us each month. Before each walk we’ll spend a few minutes talking about one strategy to improve mental health - mindfulness, forgiveness, healthy boundaries, sleep hygiene, etc. After that, we’ll simply walk, talk, and take joy in the great outdoors.

Mental Health Workshops Banner.

We enjoy talking with small groups about mental health topics such as stress management, mindfulness, communication skills, and self-compassion. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you’d like us to talk with your group about a particular mental health topic.

Drs. Casey and Christopher are passionate about the prevention of substance use disorders. Dr. Casey has given presentations on Motivational Interviewing and SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) to physicians and nurses in training who want to increase their chances of having a positive impact on patient care.  If you are part of an organization hoping to start or refine a process for screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for substance use disorders, we’d love to help you get started and provide training that will help your program remain successful over time.
